Taddeo Crivelli was an Italian Renaissance painter who was born in Venice in 1451. He was the son of Jacopo Crivelli, a well-known painter and mosaicist. Taddeo's training began in his father's workshop, where he learned the techniques of painting and mosaic. In 1469, Taddeo left Venice for Rome, where he worked in the studio of the painter Melozzo da Forlì. It was during this time that he learnt the art of fresco painting, which was to become his speciality. In 1472, Taddeo was commissioned to paint the frescoes in the apse of the church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome. These frescoes are considered to be some of his best work. Taddeo's style was influenced by the classical art of ancient Rome as well as the work of contemporary artists such as Piero della Francesca and Andrea Mantegna. His paintings are notable for their clarity and precision, as well as their use of perspective and light. Sadly, Taddeo's career was cut short when he died in 1479 at the age of 28. Despite his short life, he left behind a significant body of work that is still admired and studied today.
