Student Library-reading room of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. ..Founded in 1898 with the support of the originator of the Periodic Table of Elements, Dmitri Mendeleev, among others, the Kiev Polytechnic Institute is currently the largest university in Ukraine. The Institute was evacuated to Tashkent in modern-day Uzbekistan in July 1941 in anticipation of the Nazi takeover of Kiev.
