VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – The latest Earth-observing satellite developed by NASA, called Glory, is inside the Astrotech Payload Processing Facility at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. An Orbital Sciences Taurus XL rocket is targeted to launch Glory into low Earth orbit Feb. 23 from Vandenberg's Space Launch Complex 576-E. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – At the Astrotech Space Operations facility in Titusville, Fla., spacecraft technicians prepare to rotate NASA's GOES-P meteorological satellite. GOES-P, the latest Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, was developed by NASA for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. GOES-P is designed to watch for storm development and observed current weather conditions on Earth. Launch of GOES-P is targeted for no earlier than March 1 from Launch Complex 37 aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta IV rocket. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Workers outside the Hypergol Maintenance Facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida use a crane to lift the shipping container off of space shuttle Discovery's orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pod. The OMS has been returned from White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico where it underwent a complete deservicing and cleaning. The work is part of the Space Shuttle Program’s transition and retirement processing of space shuttle Discovery. The shuttle will go to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. In the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility clean room, the Orbital Replacement Unit Carrier, part of the flight hardware for the Hubble Space Telescope Servicing mission, is on display for media representatives. This mission is designed to replace aging parts on the nine-year-old observatory and to upgrade some of its functioning systems. During the flight, the astronaut crew will replace all six of Hubble's gyroscopes, a fine guidance sensor, the observatory's main computer, and other equipment. The 10-day mission is scheduled to launch no earlier than Dec. 2 at 4:32 a.m. EST from Launch Complex 39 KSC-99pp1198
