With a declared vocation since primary school, he had Nicolae Grigorescu as an undisputed master during his training. He began his art education at the School of Fine Arts, but completed it in Munich and Paris. Through his work, Luchian proved himself to be an original artistic personality, establishing himself with a generous, vibrant painting which, through a light-filled chromatic palette, a refreshing artistic stance and a sparkling display of language, succeeded in conveying a high-quality humanist message to the viewer. Luchian's great innovative contribution to Romanian painting at that time is represented by the way in which he transposed the effects of light, which burst out with every stroke of colour.
