Robert French - St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin City, Co. Dublin

This amazing shot of St. Patricks Cathedral taken by Mr. French could probably never be repeated. Not at least short of knocking down buildings and recreating others! It creates a vision of a very open and spacious city, with a nable setting for the ancient place of worship!..And, with thanks to today's contributions we learned that it is this parkland setting that helps date the image. Saint Patrick's Park (looking spanking new with fresh planting here) was planned under the St. Patrick's Park Act of 1897, laid-out by Arthur Dudgeon in 1901, opened by Edward VII in 1902, completed in 1904, and maintained by the Guinness (Iveagh) family for a period thereafter. At least according to the Corpo ( ) and NIAH (®no=50080682 ) sources the guys linked us to today. Very much suggesting that we are perhaps looking at a date between perhaps c.1902 (when the park was opened), and c.1904 (when the park and its fountain completed)........Photographer: Robert French..Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection ( ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914. Likely c.1900-1905..NLI Ref: L_CAB_00063 ( vtls000339841 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at ( )
