St. Luke's Church, State Route 10 vicinity, Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, Virginia

Significance: The congregation of St. Luke's dates to the 1630s and by the mid seventeenth century Col. Bridger of White Marsh influenced the fitting out of the interior and is traditionally credited with the completion of the building.

The present church building bears resemblance to that seen at Jamestown, both having the square tower at the narthex and Gothic inspired elements, such as the use of buttressing and stepped gable parapets. The woodwork on the interior of the church is particularly fine, such as the exposed timber roof structure, the turned balusters at the kneeling rail and the rood screen.

The church was known as the "Old Brick Church" until 1820 when it was renamed for Saint Luke.
