William Heath Robinson (1872–1944) was a British cartoonist and illustrator, best known for his humorous drawings of complex, fantastic machines. He began his career as an illustrator for magazines and newspapers, including Punch and The Sketch. His work often featured elaborate contraptions and inventions, which he depicted with great attention to detail and a whimsical sense of humour. During the First World War, he created posters and cartoons to support the war effort, and his work was widely popular in Britain and beyond. Today, his name has become synonymous with over-engineered Rube Goldberg-style contraptions, and his influence can be seen in the work of contemporary artists and designers.
