Shoshone Falls Hydroelectric Project, 1907 Powerhouse, North Bank of Snake River, at West end of penstock, Tipperary Corner, Jerome County, ID
Summary
Significance: The powerhouse, with its two horizontal shaft systems, was the focal point of the first hydroelectric development at Shoshone Falls. In 1907, the powerhouse generated 500 kilowatts of power. With the addition of the second generator in 1909, the powerhouse generated 1100 kilowatts of power to provide electricity to the local Twin Falls community and the growing electrified irrigation empire in the area. The plant has changed very little over its period of operation from 1907 to the present, retaining its original turbines and marble switchboard/gauge panels throughout that history.
