Changi Naval Base, Singapore (Jun. 04, 2004) Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld makes some comments after reenlisting 30 Sailors and two Marines aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Rumsfeld was aboard the Navy vessel to speak with Sailors and Marines assigned to eight U.S. Navy ships about the important role the United States is playing in the global war on terrorism. During the two-hour session, Rumsfeld also fielded numerous questions from the assembled crowd. Essex recently completed exercise Cobra Gold, a joint and combined exercise with armed forces from the U.S., Thailand, Singapore, Philippines and Mongolia.
