The submariners participated in a Galveston Bay Foundation, Natural Restoration Conservation Services and Energy Company NRG project to help restore 200 acres of eroded vegetation. Texas, the second of the Virginia-class submarines designed after the cold war specifically for the challenges of the 21st century, will be commissioned on Sept. 9, 2006.
