(Apr. 16, 2002) Ships Serviceman 2nd Class John Llewellyn, assigned aboard the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) meets his new-born daughter for the first time, following his return from a six-month deployment to the Middle East. USS Ross conducted missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as part of USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) Battle Group, and is the last ship in this group to return from deployment. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
