Sail and steam in harbour

description

Summary

Returning to matters maritime once more we have a very busy harbour scene with steam and sailing ships berthed beside quays somewhere. In the background can be seen many stacks denoting industry and in the foreground is a quay with imported timber. Wherever it was business appears to have been booming at that time but where was it?..With thanks to sharon.corbet ( /photos/scorbet/ ) it seems almost certain that this was taken in Drogheda, County Louth........Photographers: Frederick Holland Mares, James Simonton..Contributor: John Fortune Lawrence..Collection: Stereo Pairs Photograph Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000034077 ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1860-1883..NLI Ref: STP_2096 ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000565416 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
