Arthur Henri Poole - Row, row, row your boat!
Summary
A Poole commission (for a Mr. O'Leary) of a rowing four with coxswain. Possibly captured at the end of the season with the spoils on display. The trophies appear to be displayed on an old sewing machine, and though perhaps not as impressive as previous rowing crews, were no doubt hard-earned! Is it my imagination, or a trick of the slope, but are the two inside oars shorter than those on the outside?..Along with fantastic input from other contributors today, sharon.corbet ( /photos/scorbet/ ) notes that the "INTACTA" nameplate (which we see among the trophies) suggests that this is the crew of a vessel with that name. The undoubtedly deriving from the motto of Waterford City. Sharon provides a link to the "Waterford harbour tides'n'tales" blog ( http://russianside.blogspot.ie/2016/02/cheekpoint-regatta-1909.html ) (our second visit to that blog in as many weeks) which lists the crew of a "men's four-oared gig" named "INTACTA". This crew were runners-up in the 1909 Cheekpoint Regatta, and listed as: P.Delahunty (Stroke), P.Sullivan 3, P.Hearne 2, J.Walsh (bow), M.Maher (Cox). If this is that crew, and this image captured around that time, they may have spent some of their £1 prize-money on this image :)..Ofarrl ( /photos/33577523@N08/ ) later confirmed the location as Waterpark College ( ...33577523@N08/31964479064/ ) ......Photographer: A.
