SULU SEA (Jan. 25, 2013) Rear Adm. Tom Carney, commander of Task Force 73, left, speaks with Commodore Eric Evangelista, commander of Philippine Coast Guard District Palawan, center, and Capt. Lobatan, commanding officer of the Philippine Coast Guard ship BRP Corregidor (AE 891) aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) about the recovery and salvage of the min countermeasures ship USS Guardian (MCM 5). The U.S. Navy, in close coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and Navy, are conducting recovery operations to remove the mine countermeasures ship off the Tubbataha Reef. Guardian ran aground on the reef in the Sulu Sea about 80 miles east-southeast of Palawan Island on Jan. 17.
