Summary
Dansk: Børnebal.
Sidder Du nogensinde over på Baller?
Ja-a-a.
Det gjør jeg aldrig! Skal Jeg sige Dig, hvordan man bærer sig ad?
Ja!
Man ser bare stift på herrerne, naar de gaar omkring for at engagere, saa bliver man altid taget.
English: Childrens Ball.
When at a ball, do you ever sit out a dance?
Ye-e-es.
I never do! Would you like me to tell how it's done?
Yes!
You just [fix your] stare [orig: stare stifly] at the gentlemen when they are looking for someone to ask for a dance, then you are sure to be chosen ["taget" is literally "taken" but also "chosen"] .
Shows a dance held for teenagers; the teenage girls wear skirts shorter than those of adult women (as was the Victorian custom, see Image:1868-skirt-lengths-girl-ages-Harpers-Bazar.gif), though this seems to be exaggerated for humorous effect here.
The Danish girls changed the length of skirt after the confirmation (by springtime and at an age of 15).
