PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT, ADDRESSING THE WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON CHILDREN IN A DEMOCRACY IN THE EAST ROOM TONIGHT, OPENED HIS SPEECH WITH A EULOGY TO THE LATE WILLIAM E. BORAH. HE SAID HE WAS GREATLY SADDENED TO HEAR OF THE DEATH OF 'AN OLD FRIEND.' HE POINTED OUT THAT ALTHOUGH THEY MAY HAVE BEEN OF DIFFERENT POLITICAL BELIEFS, THEY WERE BOTH WORKING FOR A COMMON GOAL, THAT OF DEMOCRACY. NOTE THE TWO WOMEN WITH BOWED HEADS IN THE BACKGROUND AS THE PRESIDENT SPOKE OF BORAH
