Significance: Pierce Mill was erected in 1829 on the West Bank of Rock Creek by millwright and farmer, Isaac Pierce, and stonemason, Abner Pierce. The milling industry along rock creek was beginning to expand at this time. Today, Pierce Mill is located near the intersection of Tilden and park roads in Rock Creek Park. It is the only extant grist mill I Washington, D.C., as well as an outstanding example of vernacular stone construction...
