Summary

Significance: It is significant because it is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history. With the discovery of uranium deposits, the mine was further explored and developed between 1953 and 1969, and was one of the leading producers of high-grade uranium ore on the Colorado Plateau and of some of the richest uranium ore in the United States. Thus, the mine played an exceptionally important role in the development of the nation's nuclear capabilities during the Cold War.
