Summary
Significance: The canal and dam of the Norwich Water Power Company, incorporated in 1828, was one of the earliest water power engineering projects in Connecticut. The company sold water power to manufacturers who built mills on a strip of land between the canal and the river. The village of Greeneville grew up around the canal's industrial activity and remained one of Norwich's most populous neighborhoods will into the 20th century.
