been erected by the D. A. R. on Jamestown Island in Virginia,which building is a replica of the old Malvern Hall, and will remainas a permanent Rest House, upon the island. Mrs. McLean has traveled several hundred thousand milesthroughout the States, visiting innumerable cities and towns, makingaddresses upon patriotic subjects, not only in furthering the work of Biographies 515 the D. A. R., but in participation in civic and national patriotic cele-brations. She is deeply interested in the work of patriotic education,both for immigrants and southern mountaineers, as well as in keepingalive a patriotic spirit in all classes of American citizens, and iswidely and internationally known as a speaker in patriotic and edu-cational gatherings, and in her interest in the movement for peace byarbitration. The President-General will have the honor of completing in heradministration the great Memorial Continental Hall, D. A. R., thegreatest memorial building ever erected by women in the world.

5HELDEN B. BROADHEADTreasurer Shelden B. Broadhead Treasurer MR. Shelden B. Broadhead was born in Jamestown, Chautauquacounty, N. Y., on August 24,1846. After receiving a thorougheducation he joined the firm of William Broadhead & Sons, alarge concern manufacturing worsted yarns, dress goods and suitings,and later became a member of the company. Interested in all matters with which he was allied and popularwith his friends and business associates, he naturally was a moving-spirit with everything appertaining to the upbuilding of his locality,the result of which is shown by his numerous affiliations. He is vice-president and treasurer of the Chautauqua TractionCompany and of the Jamestown Street Railway Company; a memberof the board of directors of the National Chautauqua County Bankof Jamestown; a life member of the board of trustees of the JamesPrendergast Free Library Association; member of the advisory boardof the Young Womens Christian Association; president of the James-town
