Summary

Significance: This small house together with the Tavern nearby (VA-413), both dating about last half of the 18th century, constitute the sole remnants of a once flourishing community. Colchester was a tobacco port of importance, approximately midway between Alexandria and Dumfries. A plat of the town is reported to be preserved at Fairfax Court House.
