Arthur Henri Poole - March 3, 1918
Summary
A group of railway men, we tought, and this photo was commissioned by a Mr Larkin, who seems to have had something to do with Labour Congresses in 1918...The railway link is confirmed by the men who are holding copies of The New Way, which was "The organ of railway workers and railway users in Ireland" (thanks blackpoolbeach ( blackpoolbeach/ ) !)..Meanwhile John Spooner ( johnspooner/ ) and RETRO STU ( 23885771@N03/ ) also confirmed that these would have been members of the N.U.R. or National Union of Railwaymen...See comment below for background to a serious railway strike in Ireland... And our thanks go to desmondg47 ( 63844591@N04/ ) who let us know that this photo was taken outside Mount Sion CBS at the corner of Barrack Street and Green Street, Waterford...Date: Sunday, 3 March 1918..NLI Ref.: P_WP_2748 ( P_WP_2748 )
