Lt. Gen. Frederick “Ben” Hodges, the U.S. Army Europe Commanding General, presents Dodre Mario, Lt. Gen. Sorin Ioan’s nephew, a coin after presenting the family with the Legion of Merit Award at the Romanian Land Forces Training Center, Cincu, Romania, Aug. 4. Hodges present the award to Ioan’s wife, Gabriela Ioan, in recognition of Ioan’s service as the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Land Forces from 2004 to 2006. The ceremony took place during the distinguished visitors day during Exercise Saber Guardian 16. Saber Guardian is a multinational military exercise involving approximately 2,800 military personnel from nine nations including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and the U.S. The objectives of this exercise are to build multinational, regional and joint partnership capacity by enhancing military relationships, exchanging professional experiences, and improving interoperability between the land forces from the participating countries.
