Summary

Portrait of Lindsey Christian Staley and his wife Emily Jane (née Cooper) Staley and daughter Mary Eugenia Staley. Lindsey Christian Staley was the second child of Daniel L. and Catherine Pearl Staley and was born in North Carolina on July 6, 1851. Lindsay accompanied his family west arriving in Whitman County, Washington in 1874. He purchased homestead property with his father and brothers in the Staley area south of Pullman in 1878. He returned home to North Carolina to marry Emily Jane Cooper. They were married on March 9, 1888. Emily accompanied him back to Staley, Washington where they made their home. They had two children, Mary Eugenia and Lindsey Cooper Staley. His obituary stated that he took a great interest in fraternal orders and was a member of the Masonic order and I.O.O.F. He was also a great sportsman. He farmed and was also involved in the livery business with M.C. True, the stable having been located at the corner of Main and Pine Streets in Pullman, Washington. Sometime around 1905 the family moved from Staley into Pullman where he resided until his death.
