William Wood writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding notes concerning a Mrs. Elaw, a "a female of color..has lately arrived here from Nantucket having a strong..duty to preach the Gospel in England! She says she is well known in Boston..I am anxious to know if you think her deserving and worthy of the conference and countenance of Christian Churches here." A second letter is written by George Thompson explaining William Wood's letter on the previous page.
