Summary
Sarah Moore Grimkè writes to Elizabeth Pease Nichol regarding a conversation she had with John Scoble, who gave an account of the freed slaves in the West Indies and their former masters. She introduces Sarah M. Douglas of Philadelphia, who shows "the existence & extent of prejudice among Friends, this family has suffered deeply from this unbalanced & cruel feeling" because her brother Robert Douglas was trying to visit England "to obtain further instructions & the means of improvement in his profession as a portrait painter" but was refused a passport on "account of his color." She writes about her anxiety over Charles Stuart who was expected in Jamaica in June.
