Letter from Daniel Wise, Littleton, Mass[achusetts], to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1839 July 17

description

Summary

Daniel Wise writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding the town of Littleton becoming "auxiliary to the Mass Anti-Slavery Society & to become auxiliary to the Mass Abolition society-Good! you exclaim. Well, what is better still I obtained $20.00 of them to consititute Bro Cross & his lady life members of the Abolition Society-Thus gaining two important points." He discusses his plans for lecturing in Pepperell and asks Phelps for his opinion on appointing Colonel Harwood as a delegate, and notes, "he is with us, decidedly, though not disposed to act on the offensive as I could wish. He will be true however on the defensive by appointing him." He also criticises Garrison.
