Letter from Abel Brown, Northampton, to Amos Augustus Phelps, August 6th 1840

Abel Brown Jr. writes to Amos A. Phelps and gives advice on Phelps’s’ next visit to his area on an antislavery mission. He discusses political plans, including a few potential gubernatorial candidates, and then moves to the topic of the attitude of the ministers of Northampton toward abolitionism. (They are “as good as open opponents to us.”)
