Large group of children on a seesaw in Volunteer Park, ca 1909 (MOHAI 6151)

In the early 1900s, designs for Seattle's Volunteer Park included two playground areas for children. In this photo, 18 girls, one boy, and a woman are seated on a teeter-totter at the park. The girls are wearing typical outdoor play clothing of the period--skirts, long stockings, and leather shoes. The photo was published with the caption "The joy of youngsters in the open air is surely something good to see."
