Lance Cpl. Donald Hesse carries his dog Dasty at the end of a conditioning hike through the woods on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 24, 2015. Carrying the dogs strengthens the handler’s ability to take care of their dog in the case that it overheats or gets injured.
