The Atlas 1 rocket which will carry the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-K (GOES-K) into space is erected at Launch Complex 36, Pad B, Cape Canaveral Air Station. The Lockheed Martin-built rocket and its Centaur upper stage will form the AC-79 vehicle, the final vehicle in the Atlas 1 series which began launches for NASA in 1962. GOES-K will be the third spacecraft to be launched in the advanced series of geostationary weather satellites built for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
