Significance: It was founded in 1912 by a rice farmer Philip Conrad in 1912 to process the rice grown on his farm in New Iberia. A short time later it began processing rice for the farmers in the area. It was originally located on his farm on the north side of Bayou Teche, part of which is currently the city park. It was located there to take advantage of water transportation provided by the bayou. 3 years later, in 1915, it disassembled and moved to its current site on Ann St. and South Railroad St. so it could use the railroad for shipping its products...
