Gerda Wegener (1886-1940) was a Danish illustrator and painter known for her Art Deco style and depictions of fashionable women. She was married to fellow artist Einar Wegener, who later underwent sex reassignment surgery and became Lili Elbe. Gerda's illustrations appeared in fashion magazines and advertisements, and she also created portraits and landscapes. Her work was considered scandalous at the time because of its eroticism and depictions of lesbian relationships. In recent years, her art has received renewed attention and appreciation for its daring and subversive qualities.
