Joseph Morhead Monument
Dedicated 1912. Joseph Morehead, second president of the Guilford Battle Ground Company, was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 9, 1840. He attended the University of North Carolina and served in the Civil War. As president of the Battle Ground Company, he distinguished himself as a tireless fundraiser and monument erector. It was during his tenure that he supervised the successful effort to erect a monument to Nathanael Greene. He died on January 1, 1911 shortly before the appropriation of funds for the Greene monument received final Congressional approval.
