Portrait of John Jacob Withrow (1833-1900). Withrow was a local contractor and land developer in Toronto, Canada, and he was also known for:
He was one of the founders of the Toronto Industrial Exhibition (predecessor to the Canadian National Exhibition) - he served as the exhibition's president for a number of years;
His firm, Withrow and Hillock, served as the contractor during the construction of Massey Hall during the 1880s, and Withrow served as chairman of the Massey Hall Board of Trustees.
He was a benefactor of the Hospital for Sick Children.
He served as a City Councillor for 5 years commencing in 1873, for both St. David's and St. Thomas wards.
He ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Toronto in 1872 and 1885.
A park and a street in Toronto's Riverdale neighbourhood are named after Withrow.
