Jimmy Capps, U.S Department of Agriculture wildlife
Summary
Jimmy Capps, U.S Department of Agriculture wildlife biologist, checks the area surrounding the runway at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, for small mammals, Sept. 16, 2017. Capps works with the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing Safety Office to mitigate bird and animal hazards at BAF. Wildlife can present grave danger to aircraft, and thus Airmen and personnel at the base. It is imperative that bird and animal strike hazards are minimized.
Capps uses multiple tactics and techniques for doing so, including pyrotechnics, pellet rifles, and just simple, loud noises. He also keeps detailed records of animal behavior on the flightline, so hazards can be tracked, monitored, and studied. All of this effort reduces hazards and risks associated with wildlife.
