PACIFIC OCEAN (Dec. 24, 2011) An EA-6B Prowler assigned to the Lancers of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 131 approaches the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Lincoln is in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations (AOO) as part of a deployment to the western Pacific and Indian Oceans in support of coalition efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet AOO. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
