Summary
Japan has a variety of buildings that exhibit different architectural forms from humble farmhouses to grand imperial palaces. Japan was exposed to strong influences from Asia and the West, imported styles were subsequently adapted to suit local tastes.
Efforts have been made to preserve some monumental buildings including temples, shrines, palaces, and castles.
