Captain Allan Scott (British, 1824 - 1870). Hindu Dancing Girls, about 1862, Albumen silver print, 7.4 × 14.2 cm (2 15/16 × 5 9/16 in.), 84.XB.732.4.1.37. The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles. Stereographic views of a group of women dancing while a man stands by and plays the drum. The woman at the center of the group is posed standing on her tiptoes with one hand to her chin and the other arm outstretched.

Allan Scott began his career as a photographer in the mid-1850s and quickly gained a reputation for his skill and artistry. He was particularly adept at capturing the essence of his subjects and his portraits were often praised for their depth and realism. Scott's work was exhibited widely and he received numerous awards and honours throughout his career. He was also a member of several prestigious photographic societies, including the Royal Photographic Society and the Photographic Society of London. Despite his success, Scott's life was cut short when he died in 1870 at the age of 46.
