CHRISTMAS TREE PARK NEAR WESTERN BOUNDARY. In leaving the station the stage road passes over thefoot hills for a few miles and enters Centennial Valle)^following along the base of the Continental Divide, pass-ing Red Rock Lakes through Alaska Basin, crossing thedivide at Red Rock Pass into Idaho near Henry Lakeand recrossing the range again into Montana at TarghePass near the western boundary of the Park. This pic-turesque route from the west into Yellowstone Park haslong been used by trappers, hunters and Indians, andwas made famous by the Nez Perces Indian raid throughthe Park in 1877, when followed by General Plowardscommand.
