MAGGIE. We had now reached Cape North, thenorthern limit of our journey, and hav-ing found again the good streak of CapeBreton hospitality at the North Pond, wepassed very pleasantly a social, quiet Sah-hath. Our course here turned westward,to begin the homestretch along the Gulfside of the island. But to reach thatshore we had before us another of those jumping, scrambling trips on roots,stones, and poles across the swampybarrens. To make the tramp easier,we divided the distance in two, andwent on Monday afternoon to thefoot of the mountain. As one of the farmers happenedto be returning to his home in thatdirection, Ave put our knapsacks onhis lumbering cart and walked alongwith him.
