n like Father, you are tocome and make willow whistles for mylittle boys. And you were right, for while the frostcame again and again for the little leaves,Grandfather stayed on in the sun, andwhen he had made you the bob-sled hestill lingered, for did he not have thetruly engine to make for you, and thewillow whistles for your own little boys ? Waking from a nap, you could notremember when you fell asleep. Youwondered what hour it was. Was itmorning? Was it afternoon? Dreamilyyou came down stairs. Golden sunlightcrossed the ivied porch and smiled at youthrough the open door. The dining-roomtable was set with blue china, and atevery place was a dish of red, red straw-berries. Then you knew it was almostsupper-time. You were rested with sleep, gentle with dreams of play, happy at thethought of red berries in blue dishes withsugar and cream. You found Grand-father in the garden sitting in the sun.He was not reading or smoking; he wasjust waiting. Are you tired waitingfor me, Grandfather?
