description

Summary

Significance: The Haralson County Bridge is a steel pin connected Pratt-through truss constructed by the Virginia Bridge and Iron Company of Roanoke, Virginia. The bridge is composed of one Pratt-through truss measuring 120' and two other spans. The total length of the bridge is 157'. The width of the bridge is 12'1". According to GDOT Maintenance Records, the bridge was built in 1897, but this construction date appears contradictory as the builder of the bridge, Virginia Bridge and Iron Company, did not have an office in Atlanta until 1906. While it is possible that the bridge may have been built in 1987, it is also possible that the bridge was built after 1906. Other recorded construction dates for Pratt through trusses in Georgia range from 1892-1916. It is one of 35 Pratt-through trusses identified on the Georgia Historic Bridge Inventory and one of two in Haralson County.
