Jean-Gabriel Eynard was born in Geneva, Switzerland, on 29 April 1775. The son of a wealthy banker, he inherited his father's business at a young age. Eynard quickly became one of the most successful bankers in Switzerland and was known for his shrewd business sense. In addition to his banking career, Eynard was also a passionate philanthropist and supported a number of charitable causes throughout his life. One cause that was particularly important to him was the Greek independence movement. Eynard was a strong supporter of Greek independence and provided significant financial support to the cause. He donated large sums of money to the Greek government and also helped to fund the construction of several important buildings in Athens, including the National Library of Greece and the University of Athens. Eynard's contributions to the Greek independence movement were widely recognised and he received numerous honours and awards for his efforts. He was made an honorary citizen of Greece and was also awarded the Order of the Redeemer, one of Greece's highest honours. Eynard died in Geneva on 29 April 1863. His legacy as a successful banker and generous philanthropist is still celebrated today.
