Significance: The building was designed by local Quincy architect Ernest M. Wood for his office and studio. Since the building was designed by the intended user, Wood was able to design the building for his own interest and explore his personal architectural style. Wood was a member of the group of architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, who were designing and practicing in the Prairie Style in Chicago, Illinois. The studio was the first of its kind in Quincy and stood out with its beige stucco and stained cypress trim. Ernest M. Wood practiced architecture for over thirty years and his studio was one of his first and best designs in the Prairie style gaining him fame and accomplishment as an architect in Quincy, Illinois.
