Summary

On January 30, 1853, less than two months after declaring himself emperor, Napoleon III married the twenty-six-year-old Spanish countess Eugénie de Montijo. Renowned for her beauty and fashion sense (she was particularly fond of dresses designed by Charles Frederick Worth), Eugénie set the style for the imperial court and for all of French fashion.
