Károly Grósz was a Hungarian politician who served as General Secretary of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party from 1988 to 1989. He also served as Prime Minister of Hungary from 1987 to 1990. Grósz was one of the key figures in Hungary's transition from a communist to a democratic system of government. He played a crucial role in negotiating Hungary's withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact and facilitating the country's transition to a market economy. However, his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and he was forced to resign from his positions in 1989 following the collapse of communism in Hungary.
