Summary

A shunt at Athlone East Junction, Westmeath on a gloriously sunny winter's day - bet it was freezing cold though. They're not easy to spot, but there're three men in the cab of the engine. Originally asked for train buffs to translate 10S 25D, and Flying Snail ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyingsnail/ ) kindly obliged. It's "speed limit for Steam (10mph) and Diesel (25mph) traction for crossing the Shannon Bridge. These differential speed limits were required because of the varying weight each kind of locomotive distributed onto the bridge structure."..And it looks like 574 on the side of the engine.....Date: 7 December 1960..NLI Ref.: ODEA 23/43 ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000305293 )
