Commonwealth Railways CN class locomotive, no. CN77. The locomotive was built in Canada in 1908 for the Canadian Northern Railway, and was later owned by the Canadian National Railways. During World War II, it was exported from Canada to Australia. It entered service with the CR in March 1943 and was officially withdrawn in December 1951.This is one of a number of images in the collection of the State Library of South Australia depicting Commonwealth Railways locomotives said to have been taken in around 1951.Some of the information provided here about the image is obtained from Fluck, Ronald E; Marshall, Barry; Wilson, John (1996).
