Summary
Significance: City Hall, along with the other buildings within the civic center (such as the public library) is an unusually sensitive and successful exercise in combining humane, inviting design with references to the area's Indian culture. 1968. Bennie M. Gonzales Architects, Inc. Load-bearing masonry and concrete walls with prestressed concrete roof beams and slabs. Low massive, battered walls. Council Chamber is sunken, central room, lit by stained glass skylights by Glidden Parker. The council is known as a "Kiva" (Hopi word for partially underground ceremonial structure).
